Hezbollah paid for his wife’s Caesarean section. It brought olive oil, sugar and nuts when he lost his job and even covered the cost of an operation on his broken nose.
Like many poor Shiites across southern Lebanon, Ahmed Awali, 41, a security guard at an apartment building in this southern city, has received charity from Hezbollah for years. He says he is not a member. He does not even know the names of those who helped him.
Hezbollah fighters move like shadows across the mountains of southern Lebanon; its workers in towns and villages, equally as ghostly, have settled deeply into people’s lives.
....They cover medical bills, offer health

The collective punishment of Gaza's civilian population is illegal. But international law was tossed aside long ago
It has been 30 weeks since "Israel" imposed a complete closure of Gaza,
after months when its crossings have been open only for the most
minimal of humanitarian supplies. Now it is even worse: two weeks
without United Nations food trucks for the 80% of the population
entirely dependent on food aid, and no medical supplies or drugs for
Gaza's ailing hospitals. No fuel (paid for by the EU) for Gaza's
electricity plant, and no fuel for the generators during the long
blackouts. Last Monday morning, 33 trucks of food for UN distribution
were finally let in - a few days of few supplies for very few, but as
the UN asks, then what?
"Israel's" official explanation for blocking even minimal humanitarian
aid, according to "Israeli" Military Forces spokesperson Major Peter
Lerner, was "continued rocket fire and security threats at the
crossings". "Israel's" blockade, in force since Hamas seized control of
Gaza in mid-2007, can be described as an intensification of policies
designed to isolate the population of Gaza, cripple its economy, and
incentivise the population against Hamas by harsh - and illegal -
measures of collective punishment. However, these actions are not all
new: the blockade is but the terminal end of "Israel's" closure

Hezbollah Praises Iraqi Journalist al-Zaidi as Hero
Hezbollah on Monday commented on the incident in which an Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at US President George W. Bush.
"This is a goodbye kiss on behalf of the widows and orphans and people
who have been killed in Iraq," a statement issued by the media
relations in Hezbollah read, recalling the words of Mountathar
al-Zaidi, a correspondent for a Baghdadi television channel, who called
U.S. President George W. Bush a "dog" and threw his shoes at him on
Sunday.
Hezbollah said that Zaidi's actions constitute a flagrant expression
and reflection of the Iraqi people's rejection of the awful American
occupation. "It's a step that reflects the fact that the Iraqi people
and all peoples of the world reject all kinds of injustice, occupation
and tyranny," the Hezbollah statement read, adding that it "draws a
conclusion to Bush, the symbol of tyranny, and to the end of every
occupier within the shoes of populations, no matter how much Bush seeks
to undermine the incident's symbolism."
The Lebanese Resistance party, meanwhile, condemned the journalist's
arrest, and called on local and Arab media to stand in solidarity with
a campaign for his release. Hezbollah concluded that Zaidi should be
considered a hero who refused the US occupation of his country.

Arab country cooperates with Mossad
The Israeli spy agency Mossad may have used intelligence provided by an Arab country to carry out assassinations in the region.
Israeli sources confirmed on Monday that Mossad chief Meir Dagan's
reliance on cooperation with an Arab country was the reason behind the
successful completion of Israeli operations in various countries, IRNA
reported.
The Arab country does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, the sources added.
Among the operations attributed to the Israeli regime is the
assassination of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement's top commander Imad
Mughniyah and Syrian army officer Brigadier-General Mohammed Suleiman.
Israel is also accused of carrying out the recent bombings in Syria and Lebanon.
Lebanon's Al-Manar TV station reported on Monday that Saudi Arabia was
the country that provided the intelligence to Mossad, suggesting that
Saudi Secretary General of the National Security Council Prince Bandar
bin Sultan played a role in the cooperation between the intelligence
agencies.
